South Africans arrive from Egypt

2011-02-02 07:22

A group of about 40 South Africans arrived at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg after a 30-hour trip from Egypt, via Amsterdam, reports said today.

The Times newspaper interviewed several passengers, who said the situation at Cairo’s airport was chaotic and that they were very happy to be back home.

The group of South Africans was originally scheduled to arrive in Johannesburg yesterday morning, but their flight was diverted to Amsterdam.

SABC radio news spoke to some of the passengers, who said the situation at the airport was “shocking”.

Passengers were left stranded in Egypt after street protests broke out about a week ago in a bid to oust President Hosni Mubarak, who had been in power for 30 years.
