Soweto man killed in argument over teenage girl

2011-07-11 12:33

A 21-year-old man was stabbed to death in an argument over a girl in Zola North, Soweto, this morning, Gauteng police said.

“The two men were drinking with other people at a party around 3am when an argument started between them over a girl,” said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

“At this stage, we do not know whose lover the girl was.

As the argument reached boiling point, a 20-year-old man pulled out a knife and stabbed his opponent once in the neck before he ran away.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.”

Makhubela said an 18-year-old girl, who was at the centre of the fight, also ran away after the incident.

A group of about 15 people who were partying grabbed another man, a friend of the suspected killer, and demanded that he show them where his friend lived.

They then pelted him with stones and several other objects until he collapsed.

The injured man, who is also in his early 20s, was saved from further beating by the police, who arrived at the scene before the man was rushed to hospital.

“The suspect handed himself over to the police several hours later on the order of his father.

“He is expected to face a murder charge in the Protea Magistrates Court (tomorrow),” said Makhubela.

A case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm was opened for investigation.
