Stylish send-off for MAMAs

2010-12-06 14:28

You would think that since the year is coming to an end, the parties would start winding down. Not so.

This Thursday alone there were about seven parties in Johannesburg, among them an MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) party held at Club Hush (the former Moloko) in Rosebank for nominated artists leaving for the ceremony in Lagos this week.

The club was packed to the rafters with glam-looking bodies who came to rub shoulders with US legendary hip-hop group Public Enemy, who were there minus Flava Flav (the rapper who wears a big clock as his signature look). You could almost feel the disappointment from the ladies since he’s the only member anyone under 20 would know because of his notorious reality TV show, Flavour of Love.

But the present members of Public Enemy seemed very humble, chilling with everyone else rather than displaying the usual “I’m a big celebrity, point me to the VIP” behaviour.

One of the members, Chuck D, even joined Hush’s resident DJ Biz to hype for him as he was playing his set.

Guests at the launch included MTV VJ Sizwe Dhlomo, Metro FM’s Fistaz Mixwell and T’bo Touch, Bonang Matheba of Live, Khanyi Mbau and Khabonina Kubeka.

On stage-performances were by MTV Africa Music Award nominees Khuli Chana and PRO, who joined AKA for their joint hit-single I Want it All, multi-award-winning trio Teargas and Jozi.

After the performance, local hip-hop DJs Master M, Hudson and C-Live took over from Biz and made sure the dancefloor stayed packed until the early hours of the morning.
