SuperSport vs Chiefs: What to expect

2014-02-05 14:22

SuperSport United will be aiming for a double over defending Absa Premiership champions Kaizer Chiefs when the two teams meet this evening at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

United inflicted Chiefs’ first loss of the season when they met at the end of August. But since then, Chiefs have grown from strength to strength and are nine points clear at the top of the log.

Amakhosi have won their past eight games on the trot and will be looking to extend their unbeaten run and also avenge their first-round defeat.

A victory for third-placed United will see them narrowing the gap to seven points and also jumping into the second spot.

Chiefs will be minus their newly recruited striker Katlego Mphela, who is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. Mphela did not travel with his new team-mates after joining them at the weekend.

Defender Tsepo Masilela and Kingston Nkhatha have also been ruled out because of injuries.

But Chiefs will welcome back Bernard Parker, who missed the victory over Moroka Swallows last Friday.

An aerial battle is expected between Mame Niang and Morgan Gould, who will have to contain the towering Senegalese.

On the other hand, the game will see new Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka lining up against his former team-mates.

In other matches, Sundowns will be looking to bounce back from their loss to Chiefs when they host struggling Golden Arrows at Loftus.

University of Pretoria will also welcome Steve Komphela’s Maritzburg United at Tuks Stadium.

All games kick off at 7.30pm.
