Suspects bust for stalking youth league official

2012-01-25 13:22

A police officer and a soldier were arrested in Polokwane after they allegedly stalked an ANC Youth League official for several days.

“We arrested them after we received a call that the complainant’s car was being followed by (another) car,” Limpopo police Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said today.

“We dispatched our members to investigate yesterday evening, and Wednesday (today) we arrested the two suspects.”

The two were allegedly following youth league Limpopo provincial secretary Jacob Lebogo.

The league claimed the incident was part of a “political war” in the province, and that the men were trying to intimidate Lebogo ahead of the league’s provincial conference.

“Obviously we feel unsafe because some of our members have also been threatened (and) followed into their houses by unknown people,” Limpopo youth league chairperson Frans Moshwane said.

“We cannot divorce this (from the) political situation in the country and the province.”

Mulaudzi said police were investigating whether the men were linked to a syndicate terrorising politicians in the province.

The men were not armed, but several “dangerous weapons” were found in their car.
