The grandaddy of awards, the Oscars are the be-all and end-all of Hollywood. Everyone and their entourage wants to be in Hollywood for this one. There’s glamour, golden statuettes and grandstanding galore. And fortunately for the rest of us, we get to watch it live on the small screen.

This is one of the shows we don’t get to see on SA television, but is just as crucial in the run-up to the Oscars as the Golden Globes. Here, actors get to be awarded by their fellow thespians. Stars such as Brad Pitt have stated how being recognised by fellow actors is more fulfilling than getting an Oscar.

This is music’s biggest night – and Adele is tipped to shove Lady Gaga out of the way. The raspy-voice lass has been picked to take the coveted album and record of the year for Rolling in the Deep and 21, as well as song of the year for Rolling in the Deep. She has six nominations.
