TV guide: Four fab faces of Intersexions

2010-10-22 09:07

What’s the buzz about SABC1 drama Intersexions? Before you roll your eyes and sigh, this is not just another Aids drama.

It plays out over 25 episodes tracking the Aids virus chain with a refreshing approach that’s simple yet not overtly obvious.

The first episode aired last week telling the story of Mandisa who, on her wedding day, hears over the radio that her ex-lover?– a popular radio DJ from five years ago – is dying of Aids. There are some new and familiar faces. Here’s a pick of the finest:

Noxee Maqashalala

She was Viwe in Tsha Tsha and then disappeared from local TV. Here she emerges as Mandisa, a partner in a public relations firm who has to face the possibility of having contracted HIV from her man-whore ex.

Sdumo Mtshali

After he won hearts and votes in the Class Act talent search earlier this year, Mtshali shows off what he’s made of. He stars as the charming radio jockey, DJ Mo, the smooth talking womaniser who has a dark and deadly secret.

Mothusi Magano

He received international acknowledgement as one of the stars of the Oscar-winning movie Tsotsi. But he hit the jackpot with his role in The Lab on SABC3. He is now Kabelo, a lawyer married to Mandisa and has to stave off attention from his colleague Lindi.

Mbali Ntuli

From kissing KB on Rhythm City to packing punches as Lindi the legal eagle. She is in love with her married colleague Kabelo and is a hoarder of relationship baggage. Oh, she once had a fling with Mr Heartbreaker DJ Mo.
