In his attempt to take fashion to the people, designer Paledi Segapo of Palse has opened his boutique on Anderson Street in downtown Joburg.

The colour theme is dramatic?–?the walls are black and the floor is tiled white. Segapo says this is an ode to style’s safest and trusted colour. As they say, “you can never go wrong in black”. He designed the space himself, inspired by the great boutiques of Europe and the US.

“I’ve always wanted the brand to be more accessible to the people and located on a street, not a mall, which I find creates an illusion that it caters for higher LSMs.

“Internationally, top boutiques are on the street and attract passing traffic.”

Segapo says the store is a mixture of fantasy and reality.

The brand is divided into entry-level and premium ranges.

Palse EDT is a limited edition with prices from R100 (for socks and accessories) to R5?000 (a power suit including a shirt). Premium customers can enjoy a one-on-one consultation with Segapo for a tailored, bespoke look.

Segapo put his personal touch to the store with artefacts from his overseas travels, including clogs from Holland and tulips from Japan.
