She’s back on TV with SA’s Got Talent – just one of the projects this radio DJ, journalist and entrepreneur embraces.

Best known as a radio presenter over the years on Radio Bop, Metro FM, 702, P4, Cape Talk and Heart 104.9FM, Shado has come a long way from her first job as a secretary at an educational bookstore.

‘I believe my career path has been my university,’ she says, ‘and the beauty is I continue to learn every single day.’

Today, as one of three judges on e.tv’s popular SA’s Got Talent, Shado says she feels, ‘truly blessed to have an opportunity to engage with a wide spectrum of our diverse society’. Passionate about empowering young up-and-coming artists, this mother of two’s advice to youngsters is simple.

‘Keep your word and it will rid you of guilt.” That’s my refrain,’ she says, ‘informed by many lessons learned over the years.’

Surprisingly, although Shado relishes her role as judge on the show, she finds it tough being in front of an audience. ‘I am a shy person,’ she says. ‘I have a persona for radio and another for television. Each helps me overcome my otherwise introvert nature. Add the wonderful distraction of my fellow SA’s Got Talent judges, Ian von Memerty and Kabelo, and I’m able to bring my best to our collectively diverse personalities. We feed off each other’s differences.’

After SA’s Got Talent is over, Shado says she’d love nothing more than to take all of the show’s entrants on tour.

‘There are so many talented people who never make it through to the televised parts of the show. I’d love to take the many unsung heroes from those auditions with me on the road, and have everyone share in their stories of hope and possibility.’

•Season four of SA’s Got Talent starts on e.tv on Thursday at 8.30pm.

Quick-fire questions

When I was young I wanted to be… A photographer, before the radio bug bit.

My favourite musicians are… Too many to name and, sadly, most of them have been lost to us. Simply put, though, I love music across all genres!

If I were to audition for SA’s Got Talent, I would… Probably sing. There is a voice inside of me, it’s just waiting for the right moment to reveal itself.

When I need time out… I walk, read and cook.
