Taxi crashes into house, two children killed

A 26-year-old man was arrested in Giyani after a minibus crashed into a house, killing two children, Limpopo police said today.

Warrant Officer Thomas Makhubela said the accident happened in Mphakane Village on Sunday evening.

“The man was driving a white Toyota Quantum when he apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a house,” said Makhubela.

The walls and roof of the house caved in, killing an eight-year-old girl and a nine-year-old boy.

A woman in her mid-40s and her one-year-old baby, who were also inside the house, were rushed to Nkhensani Hospital in a serious condition.

Makhubela said the driver was saved from the wrath of the community when police arrived and arrested him.

“It is not yet clear whether the two dead kids were also the children of the injured woman,” he said.

The man will appear in the Giyani Magistrates Court tomorrow on two charges of culpable homicide.
