Today marks the final day for swimming at the Commonwealth Games and Team SA stand a good chance of adding seven medals to their tally.

South Africa is sitting in fourth place on the medals table with a haul of 24 after the fifth day of competition of the multicoded sporting event in Glasgow, Scotland.

This after Chad le Clos (100m butterfly), Cameron van der Burgh (50m breaststroke), the lawn bowls men’s team and Fanie van der Merwe (100m T37, para-athletics) all added a gold in their respective events yesterday to put South Africa jointly on nine golds with Canada.

Le Clos will now be targeting his sixth and seventh Games medals when the aquatics team challenge for the seven medals – five individual and two teams – tonight.

Roland Schoeman and Bradley Tandy compete in the men’s 50m freestyle final tonight (8.16pm SA time), while Le Clos, Dylan Bosch and Sebastien Rousseau will be in the 200m individual medley heats and eyeing a berth in tonight’s final at 8.47pm.

Also contesting for gold today are Philip Buys and Mariske Strauss, who will saddle up for the men’s and women’s cross-country in the mountain bike medal event.
