Ten Potch prisoners charged for murder of fellow inmate

An inmate at Potchefstroom Prison has allegedly been murdered by fellow prisoners, North West police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Lesego Metsi said ten prisoners have been charged with murder after Reginald Sethibe (19) was killed during a fight in the holding cells.

Sethibe, who was stabbed, and taken to Potchefstroom hospital but was certified dead on arrival.

Metsi said an argument allegedly ensued between two gangs.

Three other awaiting trial prisoners were injured. They received medical attention and were sent back to their cells.

Self-made knives used in the attack were confiscated by police.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Potchefstroom magistrate court on Tuesday.
