Tenders ‘for the skilled only’

2011-09-22 10:52

The government must give tenders to skilled professionals who will help develop South Africa, said Public Works Minister Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde today.

“We have created a lot of millionaires who do not care what happens to this country,” said Mahlangu-Nkabinde. “I am not in it for myself, I am in it for the country and for the years to come.

“I want to remain an unpopular minister, because I will not give a ‘comrade’, who has no clue what he is doing, government projects.”

The minister was speaking at an engineering conference in Sandton where she said that government needed to invest in skilled people.

“It’s a disgrace to South Africa that you look around and you don’t see skills.”

Mahlangu-Nkabinde said South Africa had the professionals it needed but that they had been relegated to “newspaper readers”.

“We need professionals, please come, we need your expertise.”
