Terry Pheto lands role in Bold

2011-06-08 13:06

Cape Town – South African actress Terry Pheto has landed the soapie role of a lifetime.

The Tsotsi actress is set to join the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful from June 13 to play a recurring role as a heart surgeon in the popular daytime drama.

Pheto has already moved to Los Angeles where she is preparing for her role, watching as the storyline unfolds to incorporate her character. The name of her character is unknown at this stage.

The writers of the Emmy-nominated series, which has been around since 1987, are not revealing too much about her role at this stage, however, they have confirmed that Pheto will be playing a world renowned South African heart surgeon in the soapie.

The last SA actress to feature in a US soapie was former Egoli actress Esta Terblanche who starred in All My Children.

Engage with South African fans
Producers for The Bold and the Beautiful are rumoured to have wanted to bring in a storyline with a South African character “for a while now”, and that is how they developed a role which Pheto auditioned for.

The soapie’s desire to have a South African character in the show was based on the fact that they wanted to engage their South African fan base in a direct manner, and when the opportunity came along to cast a South African actress of Pheto’s scope, they jumped at the opportunity to do so.

Pheto is extremely excited to be joining the cast of an international daytime drama series.

“This is the opportunity of a lifetime and I look forward to sharing the screen with my soapie heroes Katherine Kelly Lang and Susan Flannery, while sinking my thespian teeth into a challenging role,” said Pheto.

Terry Pheto’s scenes will air in South Africa in 2012.

The Bold and the Beautiful is broadcast on SABC 1 weekdays at 18:00 with a repeat the following morning at 08:00.
