As the heat kicks in, Siyabonga Sithole and Jeanette Chabalala get the scoop on.

1Africa’s Next Top Model

Will Oluchi cut it as the African Tyra Banks?

We’re looking forward to this spin-off of popular US reality show America’s Next Top Model.

Swanning and schlepping around Africa, the series stars megamodel Oluchi Orlandi hosting the top 12 finalists as they strive to prove they have what it takes to become the next face of Africa.

The show will air on Africa Magic, DStv channel 114, towards the end of the year.

This is a ground-breaking African HIV-awareness drama playing off in youth culture.

With a gorgeous cast, fresh pop sounds and impeccable screen value, the first two seasons made a notable impact on sexual behaviour, according to research by the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, which is behind the series.

For the third season, the action moves from Nairobi, Kenya, to Lagos, Nigeria.

It will premiere across Africa on World Aids Day, December 1, MTV Base (DStv channel 322).

3Survivor South Africa: Champions

There’s a new twist: soccer superstar Mark Fish and former Springbok captain Corné Krige will go head-to-head.

While the other survivors will be going all-out to win the jury’s vote for a R1?million prize, Mark and Corné will be playing their own game for R500?000.

The series is due for broadcast early next year on M-Net (DStv channel 101).

4The Big Picture

Love her or hate her,’s Nicky Greenwall has emerged as a leading showbiz reporter and celebrity in her own right.

She takes no prisoners and also produces her own content.

She brought us Showbiz Report, Nightlife and The Close Up, and now she’s back with a new offering.

The Big Picture is a movie magazine show featuring all the latest red carpet premieres of local and international films in the week before they debut at our cinemas.

The first season airs from November 17 at 9.30pm on and in the same time slot on eNCA.

5Single Galz

This new sitcom is heading to SABC?1 on December?30 at 7.30pm. It’s a spin-off of Single Guys, the sitcom currently showing on the same channel.

Casting hasn’t been finalised yet, so we don’t know who’s starring, but the good news is Quizzical Pictures is behind the series.

Single Galz is about three women in their early 20s “making all the wrong moves in the world of relationships”.

Noma, Ntsiki and Lerato are not the hip, sassy, feisty girls we see on TV, they’re clueless and awkward, and battling to get ahead.

6Marc Lottering’s new sitcom

SABC3 and popular Cape Town comedian Marc Lottering are still in final discussions over what exactly they’re going to be calling their new sitcom, but they say it’s scheduled for December.

Lottering – cunningly – plays Marc, who moves from Cape Town to Joburg. He squats with Alfie (Antony Coleman) in a luxury apartment.

The audience will also get to meet several other inhabitants of the block. This is brand-new content from the funnyman and we trust we’ll be amused.

7Channel O Africa Music Awards

Can you believe it’s been 10 years since Channel?O created its music awards?

The ceremony is truly a fine offering, and this year they’re going big.

To celebrate a decade of recognising the best African contemporary music talent, the 10th annual Channel?O Africa Music Awards has expanded the prestigious Most Gifted Video of the Year category to 12 nominees.

The event goes live on November?30 at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto.

This hip and new motoring show premiered this week on SABC?1 on Monday at 6pm.

Produced by Rise Up Productions and Lucky Bean Media, S’Movana sells itself as much more than just a car show.

It explores “the anthropological, cultural and social elements informing the culture surrounding cars, their naming and the model of ownership as a phenomenon in South Africa”.

The host is Joburg hottie Thato Cele.

9People of the South

After reaching unprecedented levels of media hype around his two-part interviews with Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe and his family, Dali Tambo returns to the small screen on December 15 on SABC?3.

This will be the second season of the new People of the South, billed as “an upmarket docu-entertainment-style chat show shot on location: in homes, offices and on the street, profiling people of substance from all walks of life”.

It airs in the 8.30pm slot.

10End Game

SABC?1’s latest drama series arrives on our screens on October 31 at 8.30pm.

Hlomla Dandala is back in action, co-starring with Bubu Mazibuko and Yonda Thomas.

The series is “a hard-hitting, fast-moving South African take on the political thriller”.

It places a strong woman at the centre of a conspiracy to kill the president.
