‘The Terminator’ out until March

Orlando Pirates flying winger Dikgang Mabalane has suffered another setback in his bid to recover from a groin injury sustained in the Telkom Knockout final last month and could be out of action until March.

Known by the fans as “The Terminator”, Mabalane suffered the groin strain in that 3-0 cup final loss to archrivals Kaizer Chiefs on December 4 at the FNB Stadium and hasn’t kicked a soccer ball ever since.

It was hoped he would have recovered by this month, but suffered a relapse.

“The injury is still quite serious in that he is in the recovery phase but is not able to train.

“The medical staff reckon he will not be fit until at least the end of February,” said Pirates’ spokesperson Mickey Modisane.

“He will have to regain his match fitness but he will be back in time to help us win the league title.”

The good news is that Mabalane will not need an operation on the groin.

Modisane said: “The injury is now responding to treatment and we are keeping our fingers crossed (that) he is back in action in March.”

Meanwhile, head coach Ruud Krol disclosed that his No?1 goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs injured his foot in the 1-0 win over champions SuperSport United at the weekend.

However, he would take his place in the starting line-up when the Buccaneers host unpredictable Santos in their Absa Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.

Said Krol: “Josephs did not train today (Wednesday) as a precaution, but he should be fit by Saturday.”
