Judge Mandisa Maya (48) was born in Tsolo in the former Transkei homeland. She studied law at the then University of the Eastern Cape. She became a Fullbright scholar and holds an LLM from Duke Law School in the US.She has been a judge in the Supreme Court of Appeal since 2006 and was an acting judge in the Constitutional Court between February and May this year.

Judge Lebotsang Bosielo (54)was born in Rustenburg and completed his legal qualifications at the then University of Turfloop (Limpopo). He rose through the ranks of the legal profession as a lawyer and advocate and was appointed to the bench of the North Gauteng High Court in 2001 where he has been acting since. He was permanently appointed to the SCA in 2009.

Judge Robert Nugent (63)was born in Germiston and studied law at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Nugent has been a judge for more than 19 years, in which time he has delivered more than 250 judgments.
He was appointed a permanent member of the SCA in 2002. Nugent was nominated by eminent senior counsel Vincent Maleka.

Judge Ray Zondo
(52)was born in Ixopo, KwaZulu-Natal. He studied at the University of Zululand and then at the University of Natal, Durban. Zondo was appointed as a Labour Court judge in 1997 and to the North Gauteng High Court in 1999.
Zondo is currently acting as a Constitutional Court judge. He was nominated for the post by the Black Lawyers Association.– Charl du Plessis
