The people who hold the power: Michael Africa

2012-11-10 11:34

On top of his work as the ANC’s branch chairperson of Ward 14 in Kimberley, Africa keeps busy with “a vegetable garden, 14 sheep, 12 goats, two cows and an ostrich. I give the vegetables from my garden to poor communities.”

The 62-year-old father of five joined the ANC more than 20 years ago.

“I was very involved in my community when the organisation asked me to stand as a councillor in my ward in 2006,” he says.

“I think a discussion on service delivery should be a priority at Mangaung. Councillors struggle to get the big guys in the offices to listen to their complaints. No wonder the ANC is losing wards.”

Africa is not sure who his branch will back at Mangaung, but personally he supports provincial chair John Block.
