The seven-year rich

It was bling all the way when the rich and famous turned out in numbers for the much-hyped seventh wedding anniversary of traffic-cop-turned-construction-multimillionaire S’bu Mpisane and his wife, Shawn, yesterday.

The famous couple, known as Durban’s king and queen of bling for their lavish lifestyle and over-the-top parties, arrived in separate Rolls Royces at the Fairmont Hotel at KwaZulu-Natal’s exclusive Zimbali resort, north of Durban.

Shawn, the daughter of late ANC councillor Florence Mkhize, arrived in a silver Rolls-Royce, looking stylish in a blue dress with pink and blue shoes, and later changed into a red dress for the party.

Her husband, who she has been with for 20 years, arrived in a black Rolls.

Shawn entered the venue on a red carpet flanked by two men dressed as Egyptian warriors.

As the couple approached, the guests welcomed them with loud ululation. They renewed their wedding vows in front of a priest, promising to love each other in good times and bad. Shawn was presented with a diamond ring set in gold.

Among the high-profile guests was sushi king Kenny Kunene, dressed in jeans and a white shirt.

South Africa’s queen of bling, Khanyi Mbau, was also there in full cry, wearing a yellow number with golden shoes and bag. She arrived alone in a BMW.

President Jacob Zuma’s nephew, Khulubuse Zuma, wore a purple shirt and black blazer.

Durban’s top brass were also present, with city manager Mike Sutcliffe and deputy mayor Logie Naidoo among the guests.
Premier Zweli Mkhize’s wife, May, also attended.

The cast of popular soapie Generations were there in numbers. First up was Sophie Ndaba, who coordinated the wedding, while Winnie Modise and Dumisane Bhembe also mingled. Former cast member and gospel music show host Palesa Mocuminyane was also in attendance.

The menu included sushi, buffet starters, a carvery and seafood and dessert buffets.

Top-of-the-range drinks were served at the open bar, which stocked premium whiskey, cognac, champagne and red and white wines.

The top guests were interviewed by Penny Lebyane for the couple’s souvenir DVD.
