The weird world of politics: Devil in the detail

Devil in the detail

Unhappy that not everybody fell for how Uncle Gwede downplayed the Public Protector’s report, the ANC launched a scathing attack on the DA.

The blue party was trying to use the report to discredit President Jacob Zuma, the ANC said in a statement, adding that this was against election rules because no tax money was used for his homestead.

Siyahleba is wondering exactly which part of the report the ANC didn’t read.

Also, the last time we looked, elections were exactly about discrediting opponents. Wasn’t it the same ANC whose minister called the DA the devil?

Folly of youth

Mzwandile Masina, the adult leading the interim structure of the once-feared ANC Youth League, tried hard to be relevant this week.

Having failed to get attention after his failed mission to agitate for immunity for President Jacob Zuma, Masina this week latched on to the publicity of the Nkandla report.

Masina fulminated that he was “disgusted” by Thuli Madonsela and that she must quit. But still the only question asked about Masina this week was: How low can anyone stoop to get a Cabinet post?

She started off by mangling isiXhosa in public. She progressed to dancing to kwaito music – badly, it must be added.

Next was the knees-up toyi-toyi routine. Then she learnt to march like an Amcu member and dodge stones thrown at her by political opponents.

She then donned a Julius Malema-style beret. This week Madame Helen Zille took another important step in her journey to becoming a full-blown darkie.

She dressed herself in Batswana attire and stirred food being cooked in a drievoet pot. What next? A weave? Dreadlocks?
