The weird world of politics: Zoooo-ma

2014-03-09 14:00

What do you get when you boo an honorary pastor? A rollicking by one of his chief cheerleaders, Fikile “Razzmatazz” Mbalula.

There were various attempts to explain away the reported booing of Pastor-President Jacob Zuma as simply an admiring shouting of “Zoooo-ma”.

But then Razzmatazz confirmed the booing by saying their plans were “infused in Satanism at best”. It is therefore generally acknowledged that, should you boo a fake pastor, you must be prepared to be accused of being a Satanist, even if you’re a fake one.

Political parties

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has clearly lost faith in the ANC. He once suggested that he did not know who to vote for because the party had appointed President Jacob Zuma as its leader. Things seem to have got worse.

In his preface to a new book, he quotes “someone close to a top ANC leader” about how political affiliation trumps everything these days when people are looking for jobs, just like under the Nats. “It is worse; they ask which faction of the ruling party you party with,” she told Tutu.

With such old men as critics, who needs a fireband like Juju?

Watch this space

You’d think after her most recent union failed, Dr Mamphela Ramphele would be a little coy about marriage.

But no: when advertising its manifesto launch, Ramphele’s Agang opted for a “save the date” – two weeks ago journalists received a coy email alerting them to the event but omitting time, date and venue.

Then the follow-up arrived, this time adding a day. It took another two emails for a date and venue to be revealed. At the time of going to press, the manifesto launch hadn’t happened – but watch this space to find out if garters and bouquets were thrown.
