Thema won’t pay for ‘hoe’ slur on Twitter

Nonhle Thema is not going to let Minenhle Dlamini have her R85 000 without a fight.

On Tuesday Thema’s representatives, Rooth and Wessels Attorneys, responded to a letter sent to them last week by Dlamini’s representatives, LeBlerh Artist Management and Brand Activators, demanding an apology and payment of R85 000 for allegedly defaming the SABC presenter on Twitter.

In the two-page response Thema’s team admitted that their client had sent the tweets but stated she had “joined many commentators and critics to voice her opinion about the incident”.

The “incident” refers to Dlamini’s assault at Hush club in Rosebank last month. Thema tweeted that Dlamini was a “young hoe” and was “drunk”.

Dlamini’s management sent a letter of intent to sue Thema for R85 000 and an apology, which Thema was told to post on Twitter and on her website. But her lawyers are saying nay to Thema apologising.

“Any action brought against our client will be vigorously challenged,” stated the letter from Thema’s lawyers.

It continued: “A demand to publish a letter of apology on our client’s website when the state- ments were posted on Twitter is frowned upon because it is opportunistic and clearly intended to embarrass our client.”

Dlamini’s manager Blessing Cele said he was “going ahead” with the summons.

“Clearly they think we are bluffing,” he said.
