There’s hope in title deed saga

2009-12-05 12:14

AFTER months of waiting, Soweto resident Ella Mkhize is finally

about to have her title deed transferred into her name.

The process will be finalised as soon as the local municipality has

issued a clearance certificate.

Alida van Straaten from New Century Developers, the company

responsible for the release of the title deed, says the municipality is to

blame for the delay in finalising the process.

This week, Van Straaten told of her frustrations in obtaining the

clearance certificate, which is the only outstanding document needed to finalise

the process.

“We are not responsible for the delay. We have been struggling to

get clearance from the local municipality. On receiving this, we will be able to make any outstanding

payments. The title deed will then be released,” says Straaten.

Hotline had contacted her following claims by Mkhize that New

Century Developers had shunned her.

Mkhize said the company had failed to advise her on the status of

her complaint and that she had failed on various occasions to get hold of Van

In September this year, Hotline published an article about a

housing saga affecting five Soweto home owners.

Neighbours and former work colleagues from Protea Glen Extension

11, Mkhize, Mabel Ngwenya, Joseph Letsube, Christina Khumalo and David Zulu had

complained about their struggle to obtain title deeds from the developers.

It later turned out that it was only Mkhize who had had a

legitimate claim against New Century Developers and the developer had promised

to attend to her claim as a matter of urgency.

However, the company failed to provide Mkhize with feedback as it

had promised.
