2012-01-11 08:56

Three people critically injured in a stampede at the University of Johannesburg remained in hospital.

“They are still in two different hospitals, but at this stage I cannot reveal their conditions,” said Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Nana Radebe.

One of the injured was Garden City hospital and the others were in Milpark hospital, Radebe said.

She said 17 other people injured in the stampede, in which a woman died, had since been discharged from hospital.

Several others were treated on the scene, but were not taken to hospital.

The woman who died was identified by The Times and Sowetan newspapers today as Gloria Sekwena, the mother of Kgositsile Sekwena, who was queuing to apply for first-year entry to the University of Johannesburg in Auckland Park.
