Three dead in Joburg taxi crash

2010-09-08 09:02

Two women and a man were killed when a minibus taxi burst a tyre on the N14 near Diepsloot in Johannesburg this morning.

“One woman was thrown about 100m from the scene, suggesting that speed played a role in the accident,” said the city’s emergency services spokesperson, Percy Morokane.

The other 13 passengers in the taxi, which was travelling west towards Honeydew, were all injured in the 7.30am accident.

“People’s arms were crushed, there was massive head trauma. There are six ambulances on the scene.”

Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the road had been completely blocked to traffic for a helicopter to land. Motorists were advised to use the N1 or R511.
