Three road inspectors arrested

2011-06-04 12:02

Three Eshowe Road Traffic Inspectorate members accused of accepting bribes were arrested yesterday, the KwaZulu-Natal department of transport said.

The three were arrested while they were on duty 10km from Melmoth near the Magwaza turn off, Transport MEC Willies Mchunu’s spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane said today.

They are accused of accepting bribes from speeding motorists, and were in possession of R1 600, Ncalane said.

It was believed that an undercover police officer gave the three a marked note when the three solicited him for a bribe.

Mchunu welcomed the arrest made jointly by the traffic and transport inspection unit, Durban organised crime unit and the Hawks.

“This is a job well done. Thank you to our law enforcement agencies,” he said.
