Top e-tolls collector quits

2014-01-17 17:01

The chief operating officer of the company tasked with collecting e-tolls in Gauteng has resigned, Sanral has confirmed.

“ETC has made us aware of Mr Ben Theron’s resignation,” spokesman Vusi Mona said today.

“Sanral (SA National Roads Agency Limited) is contracted to the company ETC and not to its employees. Please contact ETC for further details.”

Electronic Tolling Collection (ETC) Pty Ltd spokeswoman Ann Mardon said the company would issue a statement later.

Theron’s resignation followed the resignation of its former CEO Salahdin Yacoubi on November 1 last year.

On September 25, President Jacob Zuma signed into law the Transport Laws and Related Matters Amendment Bill, giving the go-ahead for e-tolling in Gauteng. The e-toll system started operating across Gauteng on December 3.
