Tough talks between Sanef, ANC over media tribunal

2010-09-09 11:42

The SA National editors Forum (Sanef) held “very robust” talks with the ruling ANC about the proposed media appeals tribunal in Johannesburg today.

“It was tough, we had very robust discussions,” Sanef chairperson Mondli Makhanya said after the meeting that was held at Luthuli House.

He said it was first time since 2008 that the ANC and Sanef had talked about the tribunal after it was proposed by the ANC’s national conference in Polokwane in 2007.

Makhanya said the parties agreed to hold another round of talks soon.

He said Sanef explained to the ANC delegation that a panel had been set up to investigate how the self-regulatory mechanism of the Press Ombudsman could be improved.
