Trevor Noah could make his Daily Show debut in August

2015-04-21 12:39

Comedian Jon Stewart has made a formal announcement of his departure from The Daily Show, which he has hosted for 16 years.

The day of his departure is set to be August 6, said Stewart during a live broadcast of the show.

Stewart was quoted as saying: “I will be wearing a suit. I will more likely be showered,” and then quickly changed his announcement to “overalls and no shower it is. Also of worthwhile notice: they’ll be raffling off tickets to the final show and will fly in the winners and put them up. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to a nonprofit group, Night of Too Many Stars.”

It is not clear when his successor, South African comedian Trevor Noah, would make his hosting debut.

Noah was seen hobnobbing with popular comedians Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David at a football game last week.

The South African, whose announcement as Jon Stewart’s replacement surprised many, was spotted at Citi Field enjoying the Mets taking on the Philadelphia Phillies in the company of Seinfeld, David and actor Matthew Broderick.

It seems Noah’s very public appearance with New York Jewish comedy royalty was a reaction to accusations of anti-Semitism sentiments by social media critics over his Twitter feeds.

He and Seinfeld were also photographed filming a segment for Seinfeld’s acclaimed Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee online series.
