The Freedom Front Plus has complained about the change of the Pretoria Show’s name to Tshwane Show.
The party’s leader in Pretoria, Philip van Staden, said the changed name confused visitors to the event. He said show management’s reason for changing the name, that it would give the event an international flavour, was “laughable”.
Van Staden said there was no geographical place named Tshwane. The show, which has a history of 70 years, takes place in the heart of Pretoria and has been known as the Pretoria Show since 1963.
The FF+ said that many visitors to the show were upset about the name change and had indicated that they would not visit the event in future.
The party has been actively involved in recent years in a campaign to keep Pretoria’s name and not have it changed to Tshwane.
The Tshwane Show ends tomorrow.
