Turning over a new leaf to financial fitness

2011-12-03 14:57

Thato had a dream to own a video and photography business. However, bad decisions set him back. He wrote to us wanting to know how he could borrow money to start his business. He was already over-indebted and did not qualify for further credit.

Corne Jordaan, a credit manager at FNB met with him and showed him how he could start his business without debt. Thato had already made arrangements with his creditors to start paying off his existing debt.

Jordaan said: “Thato was full of great ideas but he felt intimidated by this big dream he had. I told him you eat an elephant one bite at a time. He needed to break it into pieces and put a plan in place.”

Thato needed R3 000 to buy the computer that would help him generate an income in his first step towards his dream.

If he could just find R100 a day, he could have his online computer business by the end of the month.

So he decided to work at whatever job he could find for the next three months before his computer business could generate enough cash flow to support him.

Thato’s response:
I have been doing very well. My stories are getting published and, as from this month, I will start to settle my debt.

I now know my monthly budget.

The article not only helped me, but also my friends and family because they come to me for advice and information regarding debt control. I am definitely on my way to financial freedom!
