2014-12-05 11:51

The body of a woman who went missing at Woody Cape, east of Port Elizabeth, last night was recovered this morning.

This follows the recovery of a body of a 21-year-old British woman last night. The women were caught in rip currents while swimming.

The two women who died were part of a group of health volunteers who were staying at Woody Cape on a voluntary mission.

Three others were rescued after they were swept out to sea at about 8pm last night.

Lambinon said all five were British citizens.

“The National Sea Rescue Institute has handed the body of the deceased female into the care of the police and the forensic pathology services,” the institute’s spokesperson Craig Lambinon said.

He said rescuers located and recovered the body at 4.58am, during an ongoing search operation.

“British authorities are assisting the families of the two deceased females,” he said.
