2011-07-04 07:22

Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of an elderly couple on their Heidelberg farm, Gauteng police said today.

“Our forensic experts at the scene found DNA and fingerprints from three people. We put those into our system, and by Saturday night we had names of suspects,” said Brigadier Anton de Bruyn.

“A team started chasing them that night. One man was arrested in Balfour on Saturday night and the other man was arrested in Slovoville yesterday morning.”

The third set of DNA and fingerprints belonged to the couple’s domestic worker who had not been arrested but would be interrogated, he said.

The couple was murdered on Saturday night. Police said a towing service called the couple’s son after their car was found overturned on the R42 road near Vereeniging at 5.15am.

The son went to his parent’s Houtpoort farm just after 5.30am and found his 60-year-old mother tied up in the living room with multiple stab wounds. She was already dead.

He found his father, also with multiple stab wounds, dead on the bedroom floor. The house was ransacked and a rifle and electrical appliances were stolen.

The two men will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrates court soon, said De Bruyn.
