Two in court for mentally ill boy’s rape

2012-04-23 14:33

A woman and a teenager have appeared in the Protea Magistrates Court for allegedly raping a 17-year-old mentally ill boy.

“The two appeared before court and the case was postponed until May 2,” Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said. They were aged 17 and 18.

The oldest of the two was granted R1 000 bail. The minor was released into the custody of her parents.

They were arrested in Soweto on Saturday after being on the run since April 15. Police suspected the boy was drugged.

“After the rape the boy told his granny what happened and she immediately came to police,” he said on Saturday.

Makhubela said this rape was similar to three other unresolved cases which involved women drugging and raping men.

The Young Communist League of SA said it was disgusted by the crime.

“We demand the arm of the law to deal harshly with these criminals,” spokesperson Mangaliso Khonza said in a statement.

“This gruesome behaviour that is on the increase poses questions [about] our society and as communities we have to start creating forums for speaking [about] and curbing this behaviour.”
