Two people were killed in an accident outside Kimberley this morning, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said a truck and a car crashed head-on along the N8, about 40 kilometres outside Kimberley, in the early hours of the morning.

“The heavy goods vehicle had veered from the road and ground to a halt at the roadside while the light motor vehicle lay stationary and ablaze in the roadway,” Wicks said.

The driver of the truck was trapped in the vehicle and sustained critical injuries. He died before paramedics arrived at the scene.

The driver of the car was burnt beyond recognition.

The cause of the accident was unknown.
