Two men were murdered in separate incidents in Thornhill and Humansdorp today after allegedly quarrelling with their girlfriends, Eastern Cape police said.

“A 44-year old Thornhill man, Mbonile Tsunungwa, lost his life at about 2.30am after he and his girlfriend had an argument,” said spokesperson Warrant Officer Gerda Swart.

The 43-year old woman allegedly stabbed her boyfriend in the neck in a house in Phase Two in Thornhill.

Tsunungwa died on the scene.

Family members immediately called the police and the woman was arrested.

She will appear before the Hankey Magistrates Court on Monday facing a charge of murder.

The second murder occurred in Humansdorp at about 4.30am also this morning.

“A quarrel developed at a residential home between a girlfriend and her boyfriend. It is alleged that a male friend of the couple intervened and the two males stabbed each other with knives,” said Swart.

The 18-year-old boyfriend, Christiaan Ruiters, died at the scene.

A female relative of Ruiters’ called the police and an ambulance took the second man (29) to hospital with a head wound.

Swart could not confirm if the second man had been arrested but police were investigating a case of murder.

She said the cause of the quarrels were unknown but that everyone connected to the murders “was under the influence of alcohol”.
