A two-month-old baby and man died in a head-on collision outside Uitenhage in the early hours of Friday morning, Eastern Cape police said.

“A family of six were travelling from Gauteng to Uitenhage when their vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, was involved in a head-on collision on the R75 Uitenhage Road,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

“The other driver of the other vehicle, Mr GJ Jacobs from Gelvendale died on impact. A two-month-old baby boy, Rayann Dolley was the other fatality.” she said.

“The other five occupants of the Corolla including the infant’s mother were taken to Cuyler hospital for treatment. Details of the fatal crash is not yet known as the family was too traumatised to speak to anyone,” said Naidu.

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

The accident happened at 4am.
