Two more held for top cop’s murder

2013-07-01 09:08

Two more people have been arrested in connection with the murder of former Joburg cluster commander Major General Thirani Maswanganyi, Gauteng police have said.

Brigadier Neville Malila said today that the men were arrested on Saturday. They would appear in the Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court later today.

On June 17, Maswanganyi was found dead in a field near Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, with his hands and feet tied.

A police patrol found Maswanganyi’s abandoned Isuzu bakkie next to the R101. A police uniform and police identification card were in the bakkie, which prompted a search.

Two other men appeared in the court on Thursday in connection with the crime. All four would appear next Monday for a bail application.

Malila said the investigation was still at a sensitive stage.
