Two murdered in Eastern Cape

Two people were murdered in two separate incidents in Mthatha, Eastern Cape police said today.

Both incidents occurred late yesterday night, said Lieutenant Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela.

In the first incident, a 20-year-old woman was shot and killed at her home in Qhokama.

She was found by her husband at around 9pm, Fatyela said.

Two 9mm cartridges were found at the scene.

The motive for the killing was not known, and no arrests had been made, he said.

In the second incident, a 35-year-old Somalian national was allegedly stabbed to death by a 24-year-old man.

“The man was killed after collecting money from people last night. Shortly after his collection, he was robbed and stabbed in the upper body.

“He died on the way to hospital. The arrest was made shortly after.”

In a separate incident, two boys aged 16 and 19, were found with an illegal firearm, “a Z8 9mm parabellum with two rounds”, Fatyela said.

“They were taken into custody. We still have not established where they got the weapon from.”
