2010-02-19 13:58

THREE minibus taxis and a sedan were set alight and two men were

wounded at a taxi rank in Germiston, Ekurhuleni, today, police said.

Captain Steady Nawa said the violence erupted in a fight over the

Germiston-Edenvale route by the Greater Germiston Taxi Association and the

Lethabong Taxi Association.

Nawa said two men were arrested and two firearms seized.

“Three minibus taxis and a sedan belonging to one of the taxi

associations were set alight,” said Nawa, adding that the taxi rank had since

been cordonned off.

Ekurhuleni Metro Police were called to the scene at 6.30am and

arrived to find a man, in his 30s, bleeding from the head, said spokesperson

Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng.

The man told the police that he was shot at the rank.

“He was taken to hospital in a critical condition,” Mokheseng said.

The condition of the other man wounded in the incident was not known.
