Political leaders need to intervene in the police to fix problems

like scarce resources, SA Police Union (Sapu) said on Wednesday.

“We are making this call after witnessing many challenges and

failures within the police,” said general secretary Oscar Skommere in a

stations not being answered and poor distribution of resources like patrol


“There are instances where 4x4-type vehicles are given to urban

areas, the small sedans given to rural areas. It is also a common practice in

the police to find vehicle allocation within stations done in a

counter-productive way... We call upon the political leadership not to take lack

of resources in the police as a way of scoring political points. It is a reality

that we are faced with daily.”
