‘Uplause’ comes to Super Rugby

2012-07-27 10:21

A crowd-sourced entertainment system will make its South African debut at the Stormers and the Sharks Super Rugby semifinal match at Newlands in Cape Town.

Uplause is a gaming platform that allows audiences at sporting venues to control the action on giant stadium screens by cheering and applauding.

This technology should add a level of excitement to the highly-anticipated contest between the two evenly matched sides.

The Uplause system is a boon for marketers and advertisers as it provides a tool for engagement with the crowd and has been used at several events, including the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix.

“There isn’t any better event than Saturday’s Super Rugby semifinal for an introduction of the very best fan engagement and sponsorship activation solution,” said Veli-Pekka Marin, CEO of Uplause.

The Sharks have not beaten the Stormers at Newlands since 2009, but the men in black will back themselves to take the fight to the Stormers, despite the Western Cape team having a slight upper hand in victories.

The Uplause system may provide South African brands a unique opportunity to market themselves to a target demographic.

“Brands struggle to stand out and are constantly looking for new and unique ways of activating sponsorship campaigns,” said David Brooke, commercial manager for Prosport International, the company that secured the rights to Uplause in SA.
