Van Velze to lead Blue Bulls

2011-02-09 11:02

Regular captain, Gerrit-Jan van Velze, will again lead the Vodacom Blue Bulls Vodacom Cup rugby side in their first fixture of the season, a friendly match against Namibia in Windhoek on Saturday.

Van Velze was in charge when the team won the Vodacom Cup competition last year, but is only one of a few who played regularly last year, selected for this match.

Temporary coach Denzil Frans, included numerous new players, including Ulrich Beyers (WP Under 19), Louis Fouché (Leopards Under 21) and Dustin Jinka (WP Vodacom) who will make their debuts.

Jinka has played Currie Cup rugby for the Blue Bulls, while Frik Kirsten, Van Velze, and Fudge Mabeta have Super Rugby experience.

The rest of the team consists of members of the successful Blue Bulls Under 19 and Under 21 squads from last year.
