Wags United

2010-05-01 10:11

There are many women who dream of snapping up their

very own David Beckham, having beautiful children and living the high life like

Victoria Beckham.

Each time one reads

about international wives and girlfriends of football players – coined Wags by the British media – they are either shopping,

attending fabulous parties or sitting together in their big designer shades at

their hubbies’ games.

Is life as a Wag as

exciting as on Footballers’ Wives?

We speak to Sonia

Booth, wife of Bafana Bafana defender Matthew Booth, Natasha Shannon whose

fiancé is hunky Moroka Swallows’ Ryan Botha and Anastasia Adams, girlfriend to

the much talked-about SuperSport United player,

Daine Klate.

While the ladies are

adamant that their lives are as ordinary as those of any plain Jane, they do

admit to the perks of being a Wag.

For Adams, who got

engaged this week after Klaite popped the question during a romantic dinner,

the perks of being a Wag have nothing to do with designer bags and shoes, but

more about the opportunities on offer for her six-month-old son, Zach.

Adams says: “We are

lucky in the sense that Zach has everything he needs which Daine generously

provides for him.”

Shannon, on the other

hand has the Wag look down to a T. Whether intentional or not, her looks scream

fabulous, feisty and glamorous.

Of course, the new mom

has minor details she wants to iron out before walking down the aisle with Botha

next year. She barely has any visible baby fat from having their son Matt, but

she insists she will be hitting the gym pronto.

The blonde darling

always wants to look sizzling not only because she has a hunky partner but

because she believes that image is everything.

Shannon says: “I like

to take pride in the way I look and it’s just good for a lady to take care of

With her speedy BMW, a

daring diamond ring on her finger and a hunky soon-to-be husband, her potential

is unlimited.

One woman who’s had

some time to perfect being a Wag is Sonia Booth. On top of being a

businesswoman, she also divides her time between taking care of her two

children, supporting her husband and socialising with Joburg’s elite.

The couple recently

signed a deal with LG Electronics to be its official green ambassadors.

These three ladies make

being a Wag seem realistic, unlike the plastic Barbie dolls of Britain with

their orange tans, big boobs and over-the-top spending habits.
