Warm city will party up a storm

2010-09-19 15:11

The battle between Joburg and Durban for party-scene capital of South Africa enters fresh waters as ANC delegates, party members and other VVIPs jet into the coastal city for the national general council (NGC) today.

Durban’s top clubs are ready to roll out the red carpet, with several exclusive events lined up for the influx of monied, party-loving comrades.

The comrades and their alliance partners – the SACP and labour federation Cosatu – ride into town with lots of bad vibes in the air.

So that should call for a few drinks to ease the tension.

The city’s restaurants and clubs are ready to milk the BEE types, tenderpreneurs and other VVIPs who will be there all week, culminating in the Heritage Day celebrations on Friday.

The main event will be at the world-class Moses Mabhida Stadium and will be addressed by President Jacob Zuma.

Durban heavyweights Big Nuz, Tira, L’vovo, Professor & T’zozo are expected to perform, but the arts and culture department couldn’t confirm the final list because contracts had not been signed.

Everything should be finalised by tomorrow.

Entertainment organisers are pulling out all the stops with several events.

ANC delegates and other visitors can use this guide City Press has compiled to find all the fun:
