At #Trending, we’re all a little in love with South African model Mac Phiri – especially since he breaks the mould when it comes to what black male models are traditionally expected to look like.

He’s not the fetishised, terrorist-looking type that we usually see stomping down the runway, nor is he the jungle warrior flexing his brute muscles we see in magazines.

His latest shoot for Irish designer Orla Kiely’s SS14 debut menswear collection for John Lewis shows a charming hipsteresque Phiri in a sunny

T-shirt and suede ankle boots. His smile makes you want to take him home and introduce him to your mother.

Phiri has modelled for Spencer Hart and Billy Reid, as well as for Vivienne Westwood in a shoot where he strutted around a garden in a hobo blanket, spotted tights and heeled boots – all in the name of “capturing Westwood’s quirky designs”.

He also lay under a rose bush with petals on his bare torso.

Really, the only thing Phiri shouldn’t be doing is rapping, which is something he actually has been trying in the past few months, with less than awesome results.

Honey, we love you, but you’re no Jay-Z.
