We have to talk prevention too

2009-11-28 10:49

DURING the 16 Days of Activism Against Woman and Child Abuse we are

bombarded with messages from the media about how women have suffered abuse at

the hands of their partners.

This has been done over and over again since the inception of the

initiative to stop violence against women. I think it is time for the media

to provide women with information of the signs that could lead to any form of

abuse, so as to increase awareness and prevent abuse.

Women need to be encouraged to get out and stay out of abusive

relationships should they find themselves in such situations, because if a man

beats a woman once, chances are that he will do it again as indicated in your

article, “We said ‘no’ to abuse”.
