Free State Premier Ace Magashule said he would investigate the multimillion-rand website design and development contract for the Free State government.

During a New Age Breakfast today, he said that “if there is a public outcry, the provincial government will have to look into to matter”.

Magashule denied that the contract – awarded to a company belonging to local businessman Setumo Ntsele – had cost the provincial government R140 million.

This despite the fact that cooperative governance, human settlements and traditional affairs MEC Olly Mlamleli confirmed the cost of R140 million before the start of the breakfast.

During a question and answer session later, she said R47 million had been spent to date on the design of 38 websites – for all the government departments, all municipalities and three government entities.
