Weekend mayhem in Diepsloot

2010-06-26 10:00

Five people were shot and four others were stabbed in separate

incidents in Diepsloot this morning, all within the space of half an hour,

according to paramedics.

ER24 paramedics were called to Diepsloot Fire Station at 1am to

treat four people who had been shot, said spokesperson Vanessa Jackson.

“These four patients were brought to the fire station in private

vehicles, seeking medical attention for their injuries,” she said.

Two of the victims claimed that they had been shot while driving in

a taxi along the R511 outside of Diepsloot, Jackson said.

“The taxi driver had sustained wounds to his chest, and his

passenger had wounds to his stomach.”

A third man claimed that he was shot during a fight, while a fourth

patient said he was shot while driving his car, Jackson said.

“After paramedics started treating these four and taking them to

various ambulances, a fifth person arrived at the fire station claiming to have

been shot,” she said.

“Not long after that, another four people arrived, one by one, who

had been stabbed. These too were unrelated incidents, allegedly having occurred

during various bar fights.”

The four sustained various stab wounds to the body and were treated

and stabilised on the scene, Jackson said.

“The Diepsloot police will now have the difficult task of

deciphering exactly what took place, and whether the shooting incidents were

indeed related,” she said.
