Golden Gloves Promotions (GGP) boss Rodney Berman has rubbished reports that his company has left the former International Boxing Federation minimum-weight king Nkosinathi “Mabhere” Joyi out in the cold.

Joyi lost in an International Boxing Organisation light flyweight face-off with Rey Loreto last weekend in GGP’s tournament in Monaco, raising questions about his future with GGP.

“That’s absolute nonsense, Joyi is one of the best fighters we have ever produced,” said an angry Berman.

“I do not know where this is coming from because I’ve never said we are dropping Joyi (from our stable).”

Siphatho Handi, Joyi’s manager said: “Golden Gloves have not spoken to me yet (about Joyi’s future), so I do not know nothing about it.”

The 31-year-old East London boxer left GGP in a huff back in 2009 to pursue his career under the Branco Sport Productions banner but rejoined the stable last year.
